Man killed in Sunday shooting in Sodo was Central District resident

The man killed in an early Sunday shooting outside a Sodo nightclub has been identified as Desmond Jackson of the Central District, the Seattle Times reports. Jackson was one of two people shot in the incident, which started as a large fight around 3:30 a.m. The other person injured, not yet identified, is reportedly in critical condition.

Friends and family held a memorial vigil for Jackson Monday evening at the corner of 20th and Marion. He was 22.

From the Times:

A relative of the slain man identified him as Desmond Jackson, of the Central Area. Jackson, the eldest of three siblings, attended Garfield High School and most recently was taking courses at Seattle Central Community College, said his great-aunt, Gazelle Williams.

Seattle police homicide detectives and gang officers are investigating. No arrests have been made.

5:08PM - The Times has more on Jackson, whose family said he was trying to break-up a fight when he was shot in the chest.
When a crowd of nearly 100 showed up in his Central Area neighborhood Monday night for a candlelight vigil to memorialize his life, many told his family that he was the most considerate and loving person they knew.

Gazelle Williams, his great-aunt, is certain that Jackson took the love he received at home and spread it among his friends.
Police say the two groups started their dispute at a University District club, and then met up again at Club X in Sodo where the shooting occurred. Though gang units are investigating, Jackson's family says he did not have any gang affiliation.

Williams told the Times she fears people are not telling investigators all they know. She also expressed her hopes that the person responsible will be caught.
"Their friend was murdered, and no one is talking," Williams said.

"The kid who shot Desmond, we don't want him to suffer any harm," she added. "We just want him to pay for the crime he has committed. He has a soul."

They never got In no kind of confrontation with anybody out side of the club fusion.. It all started out side of club x. They never even had the chance to come in side the club they were out side chilling by the car. And for the people that are he's so called best friends need to come forward about what happend. You were there why are you refusing to talk about what. Happend when that was supposed to be your best friend it just doesn't make any kind of sense.
